zentrale Koordinierungsstelle der von den OECD-Staaten geleisteten Entwicklungshilfe verfolgt das Ziel, die Leistungen an die
Entwicklungsländer und deren Nutzeffekt zu erhöhen. Die Arbeit wird im Sekretariat, im OECD-Entwicklungszentrum und in drei ständigen
Arbeitsgruppen durchgeführt.
Aufgaben sind: seit 1981 Jahresprüfung der
Entwicklungspolitik jedes DAC-Mitgliedes, das in einem
Memorandum über durchgeführte und geplante Leistungen berichten muss (Jointreview); Veröffentlichung der Prüfungsergebnisse; alle zwei Jahre Einzelprüfung der Mitgliedländer durch jeweils zwei andere Staaten (DAC-Examen). Das DAC gibt Grundsatzempfehlungen für die Leistungsvolumen sowie die Konditionen der Entwicklungshilfe (»Grundsätze für wirksame Entwicklungshilfe«) und arbeitet seit 1994 in einem informellen
Netzwerk mit Weltbank und UNDP zusammen, um die Entwicklungshilfe besser zu koordinieren. Das DAC vergibt selbst keine Mittel.
